Polina Litvak is an illustrator and graphic designer based in London and Moscow, weaving together traditional techniques: drawing, watercolour, and printmaking with interventions of digital and sensory design.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins (UAL) and Camberwell College of Arts (UAL), she finds inspiration in timeless storytellers like Beatrix Potter and Maurice Sendak. Her work captures moments of calm, curiosity and nostalgia, inviting viewers into dreamlike worlds filled with gentle wonder.
ARTISTS STATEMENT:
My work demonstrates a nuanced understanding of illustration as a discipline that successfully balances tradition with contemporary output.
I position myself as an illustrator who deeply values the hand-crafted and tactile nature of traditional methods while readily embracing the accessibility and refinement offered by digital tools. My illustrations often begin as original hand-drawn pieces before being developed further in Photoshop. This ensures that the digital processes collaborate with, rather than dominate, the handmade quality of the illustrations. Through this careful balance, I aim to create work that champions physical interaction and sensory storytelling, reminding audiences, especially children, of the enduring joy found in holding, unfolding, and experiencing a story beyond the screen.
